Second grade friends have started learning how to use student safe search engines to learn about land forms. Each student had to teach an elbow partner one "interesting and cool" fact that they learned while researching. The students used newly learned information as an "exit ticket" to go to recess.

As a treat, we had Mrs. McElwain teach the students and staff some awesome Zumba moves. For the last song, the students who go to our after school program made up their own dance moves and shared it with the rest of the school. What a fun time!
Second graders work hard at "fixing up" their work. Students work in partner groups to help and learn from each other.
Today we had an author, Lane Walker, visit our second through fifth grade students. Mr. Walker is a Michigan principal and children's author. He has three published adventure novels that are set in nature. Prior to his visit to Crull Elementary, our fantastic friends at Literacy and Beyond (LAB) bought every student in grades second through fifth a copy of one of Mr. Walkers three adventure novels. Mr. Walker presented to students during a 45 minute assembly about how they can do anything they put their minds to. It was high energy, and had our students laughing, dancing, and excited to learn! Thank you to Mr. Walker and LAB for bringing us this amazing experience for our students. One of Mrs. Thomson's reading groups made an informational film about plants and gardening. Second grade students have been learning about plants and seeds in science and across curriculum during literacy as well.
